I have been nothing but happy with the education my child has received at Holt. She has dyslexia and her teacher brought her concerns to my attention, she was tested, and now receives supports from the amazing reading specialist. Mrs. Foster, the principal, loves her students and stands at the front door to greet them everyday with a hug and smile. There are many engaging activities for families and ways to be involved. It really is a great place to be!

I've had two boys at this school. The principal is Ms. Foster, but she does not really do much to ensure the safety of students or quality of education. There is no homework. Teachers do not consistently respond to parental concerns. Both my sons aced all their work and were bored, so my wife volunteered at the school to see if she could influence the culture to provide additional challenge and stimulation toward learning. One of my children has dyslexia, and it was not recognized or appropriately treated by the school until he graduated out to 5th grade. I would like to walk or ride bicycles to school to be more environmentally conscious, but the school administration actively discourages this in theory and in practice. One day when I went to pick up my 2nd-grade son from school as a walker (as opposed to car rider), the school had released him before I arrived and an art teacher had sent him off campus without a parent to accompany him--in the wrong direction! Unsafe, unprofessional, and a poor investment of tax payer dollars. In principle I am a supporter of public schools--but my kids will not be attending MISD schools next year.

My oldest child attended Holt and had wonderful teachers and a great experience. My second child is in his third year at Holt and we have been very pleased with all of his teachers. I love the office staff, the nurses, the teachers have all been very caring and helpful if I ever have a concern. We have made some very good friends and my son enjoys going to school each day. We have not had an issue with bullying so far.

GreatSchools Ratings are based on student performance on state tests, progress over time, and college readiness, in addition to how effectively schools serve students from different racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average). Ratings and reviews help parents compare schools. We encourage parents to also visit schools, ask questions, learn about programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process. Data provided by © 2025. All rights reserved.
