Century Middle School Ratings & Reviews

"current 7th grader, this school is not good. (Especially if your child is a POC) the school food is good on occasion but otherwise looks unsafe to eat. most of the teachers are alright but some are just plain bad. there are other reviews from students that go into deeper detail than me. most of the white students are racist and the staff only ever give out warnings no matter what. most of the clubs are really boring and there is at least one gun threat a year. last year, a few weeks in a rumor went around that an 8th grader at the time had a gun and no one did anything. no warnings, no ""We have it under control"", no nothing."

First of all, my student/kid for dress coded for wearing sweat pants/pj pants and they made her wear this very tiny short shorts that half her butt was showing. It was a cold day and she couldn't so nothing about it. This is not a good punishment for nothing, its sweat pants not pants with guns, or drugs on them. This is not good for students at all, and even the learning. She was a top student at other schools even won rewards and yet she is failing and keeps letting violations.

"Learning:Almost all of my classmates didn't care about classes or what they were learning about, only about getting a passing grade.Teaching:A few good teachers here and there but most just look forward to the end of day and pretty bad at teaching.Social-emotional support:Counseling is always available and is somewhat able to help with your issues, most of the time though your better off going to your parents.Special EducationI had a cousin in special education, on Valentines day they all went around giving cards to the teachers praising them. My cousin saw me in the hall and wanted to say hi, his instructor instantly scolded him for yelling hi and told him to shut up and get back in line to enter the next class instead of listening to why he yelled hi to me. For being specially designed at comforting a person's emotions that may not be ""normal"" or considered ""special"" this was especially harsh and he went home that day incredibly angry and sad.Safety:Fighting is a huge problem here, nearly a fight every month or so, most kids settled drama by fighting, the environment of the school is very harsh and not welcoming to those who don't fit in the system, I can only describe it as everyone is trying to get to the end of the day and anyone who had a minor inconvenience by you would instantly take it out through anger, both teachers and especially students are notorious for this. The school also didn't have any janitors or custodian, leading to the school to always be dirty and smell, especially bathrooms and locker rooms. Family Engagement:I have no comments on this as I am not a parent."

"As I am writing this I am in 7th Grade about to be 8th . This school has its pros and cons. First the most concern is safety, tbh I really don't feel the most safe at this school. There are consent fights and half the time the kids don't even get any kind of punishment, if anything the kids who are just walking by not getting involved get suspended. I, myself was assaulted once and the school really did not do much even with all the proof. Kids constantly talk about shooting up the school and sometimes it just does not feel safe. Next with Teaching, There are some AMAZING teachers like Core Plus Tech, Ms Beers and 7th Grade Colorado Core Science ms Lockwood but there are also teachers that yell at kids for not doing something right when they really just need some help and guidance. They will sometimes kick them out of the room for no apparent reason. Third with Learning, I think its fine but off course there's always the kids who ""I HAte mAtH"". Social-emotional support, this school has some of the best counsulers and they frequently check in on students and you can talk to them at any time! They also do social emotional days were we learn stuff abut it. Family engadment is fine, they send out weekly newsletters and host events. Special education Is good, they have special ed teachers. Overall this school is ok but it does have its problems. Thanks for reading!"

GreatSchools Ratings are based on student performance on state tests, progress over time, and college readiness, in addition to how effectively schools serve students from different racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average). Ratings and reviews help parents compare schools.
