Big gaming

I coordinate a mentoring program for 4th graders at DeZavala. I look forward to each time I get to be on campus (pre-Covid - we're virtual this year). The staff create such a warm and supportive environment. The administrators and teachers are passionate about advocating for their students, meeting their needs and connecting them with resources. It has been a joy to collaborate with them for the past four years.

We love De Zavala. We currently have a 1st and 3rd grader and will have a Pre-K student attend next year! Our 1st grader has gone through the dual-language program since she was in Pre-K and she (and we) love it. The Two-Way Dual Language Program can be a pathway to Programs of Choice Schools in middle and high school (Ex. World Languages Institute, Young Women's and Young Men's Academy). Our 3rd grader loves De Zavala and was excited to get back into school and see her teachers and friends. We have a strong PTA and a great community. We love De Zavala and it's been a great experience for our family!

De Zavala has a strong and supportive administration team that builds their teachers and create a positive learning environment for all. The dual language, two-way program is growing and has such a diverse group of wonderful students and teachers who are committed to meeting each child's needs. There is such a strong bond between students and teachers that it just feel like one big family!

The warmth you feel when you walk in the door from the friendly office staff to the visible administration team to the caring custodial staff to the excited specials teachers to the kindhearted cafeteria staff to the amazing teachers, you really get the sense that they love working at De Zavala. Staff and teachers know students and families by name. They are happy to see each student every day, and know the value of their students. We've been lucky to participate in their ample enrichment activities including Soccer Club, Battle of the Books, UIL Academics, In Tune music club, Ballroom Dancing, Academy 4, Leaders 5, and much more. Additionally, the teachers really display the ""craft"" of teaching. They are not there just to get through the day, they take time to get to know the students and their academic strengths so they can capitalize on them, and their weaknesses so they can help students improve. My children have been challenged academically and excelled. It really is the Small School with a Big Heart, and we couldn't ask for a better school."
