Ronald E McNair Discover Learning Academy Elementary School Ratings & Reviews

My experience at this school is by far the worst ever, they have no clubs for the kids. There is nothing about this school that stand out that make them a S.T.E.M this is mostly all black school but not teaching the kids anything. There are no learning field trips, school food is just bad the whole school is just bad.

We LOVE LOVE LOVE McNair! We have had nothing but AMAZING teachers and we adore the principal. The teachers know and love the kids like they are their own. We are so impressed with every single thing there and cannot wait to return next year! Every year with Dr. Bolden is better and better!

"We were zoned for Meadowview, but had a terrible time with a nasty teacher and oblivious principal. We opted for RE McNair DLA with School Choice and have had an incredible learning experience! Our son has completed K-1 grades at McNair and has thrived. McNair's principal, Dr. Bolden is ahead of education trends, pushing staff to be thoroughly involved, always professional, and completely invested in the success of their students and school. As a ""standard"" Dekalb County school (not a theme or charter), McNair breeches the confines of the districts reputations by ensuring all of its students are engaged with practical application of knowledge and immersive educational experiences. McNair stands out as a leader in STEM education in elementary education in District 5. Students are engaged in chess, robotics, music, art, physical education, agriculture, hydroponics, aquaponics, a biology lab with various creatures for study, and so much more - as a standard for every child in every grade. Every student is spoken to as a person of value and intelligence."

"This was our first year living in Dekalb County. When we moved here, I was lost. I had heard some ""not so good things"" about Dekalb County schools. We started off at Oakview Elementary (our zoned school) that was a horrible experience for our family. When I discovered Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy it was the best thing for the family. Our girls (K, 3rd) are so excited about school now. The teachers there are wonderful, always enthused, always want whats best for the kids, and they always make it a great experience for the children. Principal Bolden takes care of each and every child like they are his own. And wants nothing but the best, not only for the children but also for the staff. Also with safety being a big issue these days, I can honestly say, as a parent I ALWAYS, ALWAYS drop the girls' off knowing they are 100% taken care of. Overall, I would definitely recommend this school to anyone that is looking for a tight~knit, safe, loving, educational environment for their child/ren."

GreatSchools Ratings are based on student performance on state tests, progress over time, and college readiness, in addition to how effectively schools serve students from different racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average). Ratings and reviews help parents compare schools. We encourage parents to also visit schools, ask questions, learn about programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process. Data provided by © 2025. All rights reserved.
